The Boat
Wavedancer Of Portmouth
Wavedancer is a 1983 Westerly Sealord & is a boat with a story . Before she became Wavedancer, she carried the name Master Craftsman and served under REME, the Royal Electrical and Mechanical Engineers. During her time with them, she proved her capability and resilience by crossing the Atlantic not once, but twice. Those voyages shaped her reputation as a tough, dependable vessel built for serious blue‑water sailing.
In 2022, we became her new custodians and began a full transformation to bring her into a new chapter. Almost every system has been upgraded or renewed: navigation, electrics, rigging, safety gear, comfort features, and the small details that make long‑distance sailing not just possible, but enjoyable. The goal was simple — to honour her past while preparing her for future adventures.
Today, Wavedancer is once again a true blue‑water boat & she's ready for another Atlantic circuit
The Skipper
Jonathan Bisson
I’m Jonathan, and sailing has become one of the most rewarding parts of my life. I’ve always had a practical, engineering‑minded approach to the world, and that naturally extends to how I look after Wavedancer. When we bought her in 2024, I knew she had incredible potential — a boat with real history, real capability, and a story worth continuing.
Her past as Master Craftsman, serving with REME and crossing the Atlantic twice, gave her a solid foundation. My goal has been to honour that heritage while upgrading every system so she’s ready for blue‑water sailing once again. From electrics and navigation to rigging, safety gear, and comfort improvements, I’ve taken pride in making sure each upgrade is done properly and with long‑term reliability in mind.
Whether I’m helming in lively conditions, planning our next passage, or deep in the engine bay solving a problem, I feel at home on the water.
The Crew
Louisa Bisson
A self decribed fair weather sailor, Louisa will be joining Wavedancer mainly on the 'fun' party of the trip - the Caribbean Islands! She is also joining Wavedancer for the Madeira - Lanzarote trip.
David Cameron
David is joining Wavedancer in Falmouth and will be sailing all the way to Greneda! He is looking forward to the peace and quiet of ocean life
Lloyd Stephenson
An experienced racer and newly qualified Yachtmaster , Lloyd will be joining Wavedancer at Lanzarote for the Atlantic crossing
